Regret (Young)

In truth, I said

“I love you.”

Didn’t lie; Hidden, I

Caught upon a fear, too.

In fact, you were

Beyond me.

Simple thing: I had no ringing

In my ears, see.

In deed, we touched

The right way.

Right for us, but righteousness

Holds more enduring sway.

In love, a course

Was drawn out.

A cynosure, a flick’ring lure,

And disallowing doubt.

In fault, was I,

As you, when,

Fledgling sailors, we set forth

Amid capricious winds.
